Sarayaku is located in one of the few remaining unviolated regions of the Amazon Basin. The virgin rainforest in its surroundings is outstanding for the richness in biodiversity, among which are many endangered species of animals and plants. To reestablish useful trees and plants which have already disappeared from the surroundings of Sarayaku, 25 reforestation areas have been created in the immediate vicinity of the village. Each area has the size of about one hectare and is supervised by a female project manager. |
