Financed by the Ecuadorian government’s program for rural electrification, solar panels were installed in front of every house in Sarayaku in 2007. Instead of using kerosene lamps which produce a lot of grime and smoke, the families can now light their homes with solar energy for a few hours without having to fear harmful consequences for their health. |
