The most important event of Sarayakus agenda is the festival in honor of Pachamama (mother earth) and Amazanga (god of the animals). During the four-day festival, dances are performed in the houses as well as in the village square. In these dances, the women represent animals or plants, such as eagles or palm trees, and they – the women – play the active role and ask the men to dance, often with insinuating comments and much laughter.
