Don Sabino, 83 years old, is a healer and spiritual authority in Sarayaku. Even though missionaries introduced Christianity there at the end of the 17th century, spiritual practice and traditional faith play an important role in the community. Not least, they are one of the crucial roads in the long-lasting, successful resistance against oil drilling among the population. The younger generation today is about to free traditional practices and festivities from oblivion, and is advocating a revival of the ancient knowledge of their forefathers.
