The Kichwa Indians in Sarayaku have been living in a harmonious relationship with nature for centuries. They still cultivate their traditional lifestyle and support themselves mainly by fishing, hunting, and sustainable agriculture. Due to the growing population, the river next to the community is in danger of being over-fished. Therefore, within the framework of the Plan de Vida, around 40 families have additionally built fishponds, which supply the villagers with fresh fish. |
