In reality, globalisation has absolutely no advantage for people, especially not in Third World nations. … Because women are those primarily affected, I work in the Solidaritas Perempuan Indonesia, Women-Solidarity Indonesia … In the run-up to the elections we have an action program for the parties, including, besides the debt and anti-globalisation campaign, activities against privatisation of water, for example. … I appeal to all people, particularly to women, to precisely examine globalisation, to analyse it and evaluate it. When it destroys our environment, the life of the people, then there has to be opposition, or improvements. When it contains something good, yes, then we accept this. We have to be very accurate. Every single process of globalisation has to be precisely examined. Yusnita, lawyer, born 1974, Indonesia Solidaritas Perempuan is one of the most important Indonesian women’s coalitions. Since the early 90s it has worked for the protection and the promotion of the most marginalised women of Indonesian society: factory workers, migrant workers, and fisherwomen. The activists declare their solidarity with the thousands of women and girls in foreign countries who have to go into service - in households and factories - to bring in foreign earnings. The coalition has furnished them with an asylum house. There is no legal protection for these women, just as there is none for female workers in their own country. Often they are victims of exploitation and sexual violence. … |
