Yucca roots are the main staple in Sarayaku and are used on a daily basis as a side dish for meals. They are also used to brew Chicha, a traditional alcoholic drink, about which many myths and stories abound. Among other things, it is said to bestow enormous physical strength and supernatural powers on the Kichwa.
